Elections 2009-2010

Elections are an integral part of the Students’ Union, it makes the Union what it is and gives you the opportunity to have your say on how it is run. By participating in elections you are not only showing an interest in the Union, but you are showing an understanding of the importance of your democratic right, which should not be taken for granted. The majority of the Union elections will be conducted online, all of our elections are going to be based on single transferable voting system or in other words preferential voting, where you will be able to vote for all candidates in order of preference.

For more information on any of the elections or positions below please contact Anna Hiscocks (Vice-President Education, Representation and Welfare) on vped&rep@qmsu.org or 020 7882 8039

NUS Delegates

As an NUS Delegate you will represent your Students’ Union at a National Level, by attending annual and regional conferences. The Annual Conference takes place in the spring, and is the main decision making body of the NUS. It determines the policy of the National Union of Students by debating motions submitted by constituent members, it also adopts policies, sets the campaigning agenda for the next year, and elects the National Executive Committee. We want to send our Students so that they can push the policies that Students at Queen Mary care about, therefore our delegates are elected by they whole student body.
*All Students apart from Single Semester Associate Students can run in this election.

Sabbatical Officers and Trustees

Your Students’ Union is run by five full time Sabbatical Positions, elected for one year. They are The President, Vice President Education, Representation and Welfare, Vice President Communications, Vice President Student Activities and Barts and The London President. They carry out the policies set by YOU through Union committees, General Meetings. Each officer has a separate job description, so have a read and see if you’re interested in one of the five positions in this years Sabbatical elections. The Governance of the Students’ Union has been reviewed in relation to the Charities Act 2006, and as a charity we require 5 Student Trustees that are elected by all students and at least one Trustee must be a member of Barts and the London. For more information about the SU governance, charity law and responsibilities of the Trustee’s see ‘How the Union is Run’ page on the About us section.
