Provide Volunteering and the READ Book Project, based in Queen Mary Students’ Union, have been given 3 guaranteed places to run in the London Marathon 2012. Founded in 1981, the London Marathon is the largest race of its kind in the world. Spanning 26.2 miles, its runners enjoy some of London's finest landmarks as they face the challenge of completing this historic race. The marathon will take place on Sunday 22nd April 2012, where in the past seven years, Provide student volunteers have stewarded along Mile 19, Canary Wharf. Running places for the marathon are extremely hard to come by: In the last few years there have been up to 100,000 applicants for only 47,000 places.
As you can see, this is a fantastic once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so if you’ve ever considered running the marathon previously or want a new fitness challenge then click here for more information and an application form.
The deadline for applications is Friday 20th January at 12noon, so you may want to start training now!
