On Tuesday 8 December the Annual Student Meeting (a meeting held by the Students’ Union each year for students to vote and debate on issues put forward by other students) was held in the Skeel Lecture theatre. The turn-out was very encouraging, with 248 students in attendance.
A total of 9 motions were discussed, which were:
-
Should the Union conduct research and run a campaign on LGBT+ Inclusion in Sport?
-
Should whistleblowing processes be better organised and advertised to BL students?
-
Should more gluten-free food products be introduced on campus?
-
Should there be more student representation on QMUL College Council?
-
Should there be greater transparency provided by the Students’ Union with respect to a suspension given to a society?
-
Should an emergency Societies Board meeting commencing the week of 14th December take place?
-
Should external bookings for the Great Hall begin from 2pm on Fridays?
-
Should the Union lobby the university to keep Dawson Accommodation Rooms for BL Students?
-
Should QMSU sanction an ongoing initiative for improving security for students and the wider community?
All motions were passed and the last motion was passed unanimously. The Union is looking forward to working towards their completion over the coming months.
We appreciate all those who attended, submitted motions, and contributed to the Union’s democratic processes. The next Student Council is on 26 January. There is no vote in this meeting, but you can propose and speak on motions.
