Check out what happened at Student Council

The first Student Council of the year has fully approved the Union’s new Bye-Laws, part of the governing documents of the Union, which needed to be passed following the Union becoming a limited company in August.

Student Council debated motions including a motion to ban bottle-fed water coolers from the Union, a proposal to ban payday loans companies from campus, motions to improve exam feedback and to bring down the cost of textbooks. These motions among others were passed. Motions that did not pass included a proposal to create a Union Environmental Officer position, a motion to support an upcoming strike by lecturers and a proposal for the Union to adopt a ‘No Platform’ policy.
