President
Nasir "Nas" Tarmann

phone: 020 7882 8038
Hi, my name is Nas and I am your Students’ Union President. I myself have recently graduated in Maths with Business & Finance and I had a great time at Queen Mary. I have been actively involved in the union, played basketball, been a member of staff and generally taken part in all areas of student life. I have made some great friends and now it is time for me to make sure that we run the Students’ Union so that you are able to get the most out of your time here. My full-time job is to make sure your views are represented to the College and that the Students’ Union reflects your needs. As a student elected to work in the Union for a year, it is my job to make sure we keep all our activities, entertainments and support services focused on you, the student. Everything I do is designed to ensure that you gain the best possible student experience here at Queen Mary.
I also have overall responsibility for implementing Students’ Union policy and for the smooth running and co-ordination of the work of the Union. In short, I am here to make your voices heard! And make sure the union is delivering what YOU want! So if you ever have any questions queries or just want to feed in to any aspect of the union due get in touch. I'm usually stuck under a pile of paper work, so any student communication is highly appreciated.
Finally, I wish you all a very successful year both academically and socially. Being a Uni student is the time of your life. So my advice to you is MAKE THE MOST OF IT!!
VP Communications
Sam Cunningham

I'm Sam Cunningham and I'll be your Vice President of Communications for the coming academic year. I've just completed my first year in this role so will be carrying a year of experience with me into the coming months. I am a recent graduate of English.

My main roles are running the student monthly magazine & Cub and fortnightly newspaper QMessenger. These publications are entirely student-run, so I need your help and urge anyone to get involved. If you're interested in any aspect of journalism or the production process, don't hesitate to let me know at the above email address.

I will also be helping to maintain the new Students Union website, www.qmsu.org, working with all of the other SU staff and your other Sabbatical Officers. This is a brand new venture for 2009. For the first time we will have a full-time member of staff running the website in addition to making sure the other communication channels of the SU work effectively and brand new website, designed specifically for the Students' Unions need, for them to run. If you want to find out anything about your SU, visit www.qmsu.org.

Look out for regular copies of Cub and QMessenger on campus during term time. These can be found in all the QMSU outlets Drapers, Qmotion, Ground, and The Village Shop and in the Library.

I hope you have a fantastic year and wish you all the best of luck.

VP Education Welfare & Representation

Hey QM Students,

I graduated from Queen Mary last year after studying History. Coming from a small town in Devon it was very daunting moving to London in my first year but I soon started to love it! I got involved with the Students’ Union as much as I could. I joined a sports team, worked at the gym, did some volunteering, and became environmental officer. The atmosphere around it all was fantastic!

In this role I am responsible for your educational needs, working with the departments and the college to make sure you are receiving the best educational support available. Queen Mary offers some of the best services to support your needs whether it has to do with finance, accommodation or health. I am here to guide you to the most suitable service, so please feel free to contact me over any concern you may have.

Remember, it is YOU as a student that makes the Students’ Union what it is. We need your support and participation to guide us in the right direction. The more we speak to you, the better we can be, it is your union so come and say hi.
