Hello everyone, my name is Ella and I am applying for the BL Volunteering Officer role.

The reason I am applying is that I feel extremely enthusiastic about volunteering, and the opportunities it creates for an individual to have a positive impact on humanity, whilst also broadening their personal experiences in different areas of society.

Volunteering helps you to develop new skills and apply previous knowledge to real-life scenarios. Volunteering doesn’t only benefit the charity or cause in need, but can also massively improve your mental health and wellbeing by donating your time to helping others.

I have been part of the volunteering board since I started at QMUL, and I have thoroughly enjoyed getting involved in the planning and logistics of running events and funding different volunteering groups, and I have learnt so much from the current officers, Annie and Aleksandra. I am excited about having this opportunity to apply for the officer role so that I can donate more time and become more involved in building and promoting volunteering at Barts and the London.

If I were to be elected as Volunteering Officer I would aim to achieve the following;

• Creating big fairs during the academic year where new and current students can attend in groups and sign up to be part of different volunteering projects at Barts and the London. The project that has the most volunteering hours would win an award at the Big Volunteering Ball.

• ‘The Big Volunteering Ball’- COVID permitting, I would like to launch an annual summertime ball at a venue in London where members of volunteering groups could attend and celebrate the achievements they have made throughout the academic year in volunteering. (I would have a plan to fund this.)

• Maximising student involvement in volunteering. From being a first-year student at Barts, I know that everybody loves a fair and a ‘goodie bag’. I would want to promote volunteering at Barts and the London more so students know what there is on offer and what sort of things it would involve, or the opportunities they may have in volunteering. Maybe, I could arrange that for each student that applies to a volunteering group would get a t-shirt, or lanyard or something that would promote volunteering and encourage others to get involved.

Thank you for taking the time to read my manifesto and I hope that I can be considered for this role.

All the best,

Ella Mounteer.
