The Pirates of Penzance

'The Pirates of Penzance' (1879) is a two-act comic operetta by Gilbert and Sullivan that follows Frederic, a young man mistakenly apprenticed to a tender‑hearted band of pirates. Having reached the end of his term of service (on his twenty-first birthday), he vows to devote himself to their destruction, but his fierce sense of duty, his newfound love for Mabel, and an awkward legal complication combine to delay his happy ending in increasingly ridiculous ways.

Our Society:

The Savoy Opera Society is a society based around appreciating and performing Savoy comedy operettas written and composed by the Victorian duo, ‘Gilbert and Sullivan’. Our goal is to bring together fans of their operettas, opera or musical theatre in general, or simply people who want to improve their singing/musical skills in a fun way!

Our Womxn’s only party is based on the idea of a very impactful, historical movement Take Back The Night. What started out with the aim of ending sexual and domestic violence created a global initiative where the priority is to build environments in which womxn feel safe, supported and empowered by reclaiming public and social spaces during the night. Thanks to this movement, many workplaces and universities changed their policies by shifting the perspective from victim-blaming to perpetrator responsibility. These events continue to provide a space where survivors feel safe to share their experiences which contributes to reducing shame surrounding violence internationally. Reaching millions of people, the impact of this movement proves to be revolutionary

Our event is a night-out that celebrates freedom, solidarity and equality within a space created by and for womxn. Help us support the legacy of those who came before us by attending and reclaiming the right to take up space after dark.

All procceds from ticket sales will be donated to the Ashiana Network. Ashiana Network is an East London specialist charity which assists women who are experiencing or at risk of experiencing violence, abuse, or harmful practices. Ashiana Network provides safe housing and refuge serices, operating over 20-bed spaces for women fleeing domestic violence and forced marriage. They offer advice and counseling for women and girls affected by violence and abuse. They also run education and outreach programmes across East London to prevent domestic violence, raise awareness of harmful practices, and challenge cultural barriers.

In-person Salsa & Bachata Classes with professional teacher Ivan Galvez from Salsateca London!

Join us for our class this Wednesday from 5:45 pm to 7:45 pm at Happy Feet Studio (Near Barbican & Old Street). Each session includes one hour of Salsa and one hour of Bachata and is open to all levels, including beginners!

Hi Everyone! Join us for Year 1/2 OSCE teaching for medical students!

These are hands on session with a focus on clinical examinations as well as tips to remember the steps for each of them. As needed we still bring any equipment needed to practisse these skills (although we recommend you to bring your own stethoscopes!)

These sessions are normally every Monday in Garrod 3.04 at 6pm. Please check our Insta for individual session details and updates to room changes.

The event will bring together Muslim students who are observing the fast and non-Muslim students who want to learn more about the experience. As sunset approaches, attendees will gather, wait for the call to break the fast, and eat together in the same space.

The focus of the evening is on conversation and connection. There will be time to talk about what Ramadan and Iftar mean to those who observe it, as well as space for open discussion, questions, and shared reflection. By eating together and spending time in a relaxed setting, the event aims to encourage understanding, mutual respect, and a sense of community across different backgrounds.
