WoSTEM careers: Technology & Engineering (28/10/2026, 16:00)

Sat, 24 Oct 2026 13:19:29 +0100

60% of jobs are never advertised and they exist within "the hidden job market"

Usually, an organisation prefers to hire people they know who have already proved themselves. So join us for a careers event across Technology and Engineering to learn what is needed in this job market and to create that first connection with our Queen Mary Alumni.

We have invited a range of successful women who all have different and non-traditional careers to show you the endless possibilities that your degree can take you.

The event will be set up in two parts: a panel talk and a networking event.

During the panel, we will discuss their journey into their job, how their time at university developed their skills, how they handled applications and the key skills they needed to become successful.

The networking event will be your chance to ask more specific questions about themselves, their pathway or even talk about a project they're currently working on. Take this as your first step to building a personal connection to them, and follow up through LinkedIn to build your personal brand. Maybe go even further by scheduling a coffee chat to learn about the company culture to mention in your applications/interviews.

📍 Location: Arts Two Lecture Theatre, Mile End campus, Queen Mary University of London
⏰ Time: 16:00 - 18:00
📅 Date: 28th October

Come along to ask your questions to learn how to stand out against the crowd and get some connections! We will also provide food and freebies 🤭

PS: the event is open to all women, regardless of what degree you study. We won't go into the technicalities of the field but the panel will focus on the general journey into your first professional opportunity 💖

QMSU Liberation x LGBT+ Society: Pride Screening (11/11/2026, 14:00)

Mon, 12 Oct 2026 11:16:29 +0100

In 1984, a group of queer activists and striking miners came together in solidary to make history. 2014’s Pride (dir. Matthew Warchus) brought that story to the big screen.

Based on the true story of the formation of the Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) campaign group during the 1984 Miners’ Strike, Pride depicts an important and sometimes devastating true story while remaining a rare example of unapologetically joyful queerness in mainstream cinema. It’s with this in mind that we are excited to host a screening of the film and post-screening group discussion of its themes, strengths and limitations, and relevance to liberation efforts both historical and contemporary.

With its star-studded cast including Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton, and Andrew Scott, and its celebration of a milestone moment in UK queer and labour history, Pride is a wonderful and important film that cannot be missed.

We aim to create a welcoming space for everyone interested in queer history and liberation to enjoy the film and foster a safe space for reflection and shared learning, regardless of your familiarity with queer history.

Join us for a screening of Pride followed by a discussion of its themes and contemporary relevance at 2pm Wednesday 11th November at the Hitchcock Cinema in ArtsOne. All welcome!
