QMSU One-Day: Clothing Challenge

Wednesday 15 February 2017, 8:15am - 1pm

Whitechapel Mission
About this event

The Whitechapel Mission, a local homeless day centre, is a lifeline for many vulnrerable men and women in London who've found themselves trapped in a cycle of homelessness and poverty.

Role description:

With 50 homeless guests coming in to use their shower facilities each day and requiring a change of clothing, there is a constant need for donated clothing to be sorted, measured, sized, and hung, ready for distribution. Volunteers will be working as a team with other student volunteers, sorting, measuring, sizing, and hanging donated clothing, ready for distribution for the local homeless. It sounds like a small task but it's one that will make a huge improvement to the self-esteem, comfort and future prospects of local homeless individuals.

Volunteers will meet in Mile End and will travel to Whitechapel as a group to start their shift at 9am and will finish in time for lunch at 1pm.

No prior experience is required- volunteers will be supported by Whitechapel Mission staff throughout the Clothing Challenge.

This is a great opportunity to meet your fellow peers and make some new friends. Volunteers will gain a true insight into the issue of homelessness and will form and integral part in meeting the needs of Tower Hamlets' local homeless.
