BL Men’s Hockey club is a competitive club with two teams competing regularly in BUCS, LUSL and UH competitions. Our first team play in a competitive league in BUCS (South East Division 3), whereas our second team is a development team playing in a lower division aimed at introducing beginners to the sport whilst competing strongly in the league. We have two coaches; a head coach who is responsible for overseeing the whole club and an assistant whose primary focus is developing skills and working with beginners.
We aim to offer hockey to all abilities within a highly social BL club, proud of its tradition. We aim to provide opportunity for BL students to play hockey at a high level, whilst ensuring that members who are new to the game are able to develop their hockey and compete regularly.
Our Freshers’ Taster will take place during the first couple weeks of term, we will have the details for you at the Freshers’ Fair! Everyone is welcome whether you have played hockey all your life or have never picked up a hockey stick before! We will have all the equipment for you to try your hand at the sport. If you want to then join the best club at Barts and the London you will have opportunities for weekly matches no matter what level of hockey you are.
Mondays 6-7:30pm at Lee Valley Hockey Centre
Equipment: Sports clothing and astros/trainers. Hockey stick, shin guards and mouthguard ideal but not essential.
Commitment levels required: The 1st team are looking for a decent level of commitment, and are aiming for promotion. The 2nd team is more relaxed but is also a fun, competitive environment for people to play hockey in. We also recognise that everyone is here to qualify as a doctor or dentist so we never ask people to prioritise hockey over their studies.
Both the 1st and 2nd teams compete in BUCS and the UH cup. There is also a mixed ability LUSL team aimed at developing players who want to make a step up.
Matches every Wednesday afternoons (usually anywhere between 1pm – 5pm) and occasionally on Sundays. Matches are played at various locations around London. The season goes from late September to late March.
Welcome Curry will be the night of Fresher’s fair – details can be found at our stall. We hold socials throughout the year as well as weekly nights at the Griffinn every Wednesday for Tables! Other social events include bowling, mixed socials with the Women’s hockey team and an international hockey tournament.
