We are looking for a highly driven, organised customer focussed person to be part of our commercial team at QMSU. Our bars at Queen Mary University of London, provides students, staff and members of the public with a range of food & drink, across both normal trade and bespoke events, with an emphasis on outstanding customer service and satisfaction, along with continuously looking to improve and expand our offering to our students here at QMUL. With some 200 evening events per year as well, we need to be a master of all trade times.

The primary role of the Assistant Manager (Bars) is to aid in the management and operational delivery of our licensed trade operations, ensuring that we are compliant with both governmental and departmental standards whilst on shift. Although there is an expectation of significant bar supervisory experience, full training including personal license holder training will be provided for the role as well as giving you the tools to develop when dealing with large scale events, hospitality delivery and student queries amongst other items.

This role will primarily take place across at Drapers Bar & Kitchen and Griff Inn Bar & Kitchen, but will include events at other sites, namely Barbican and Chislehurst.

You should be a ‘hands on’, organised and approachable person who is committed to the values of the organisation, being a safe, friendly environment with the student experience at its core. You would be managing up to 15 staff whilst on shift, so an ability to lead by example is necessary. Hours would be predominantly Monday – Friday but much of the work would focus around our high footfall term time events during the evenings, and occasional weekend work would be required.

Applicants should have excellent communication skills and have the ability to work with a wide range of people.  Candidates must have the ability to work well under pressure, prioritise service and student staff development amongst other projects taking place.

The post is a part time permanent with a starting salary within the range £24,184pa - £28,393pa pro rata per annum inclusive of London Allowance.
