This is an exciting internship which will engage with all areas of the Students’ Union in particular the Student Engagement department. The Societies Intern will assist in the delivery of a brand new accreditation scheme the Societies Excellence Award. Alongside this the Societies Intern will look to develop relationships between the Academic Societies , Students’ Union and the university by helping orchestrate and deliver at least 4 events per year alongside the academic societies.
The successful candidate will have a passion and enthusiasm for improving the student experience and have a positive attitude and commitment to providing excellent customer service. The successful candidate will have the ability to use their own initiative, be flexible when faced with a variety of impromptu tasks,
QMSU represents and supports over 18,000 students who make up the diverse and vibrant student body at Queen Mary, University of London.
The Societies Intern will be responsible for ensuring that the relevant societies under the guidance of the co-ordinator are being responded to in a professional manner, alongside the day to day running and training of societies. The post holder, when not working with Academic Societies or the Societies Excellence Award, will assist in all aspects of student engagement, supporting the Societies team to deliver new initiatives to engage hard to reach groups and helping deliver centrally ran events for societies.
Applicants should have a good understanding of the needs of students, have excellent organisational skills and have the ability to work with a wide range of people. You will also need to be empathetic to the needs of the students and have experience in planning and running successful events. Building positive relationships with students and staff is another area that is essential for the intern to have.
The post is a 20-22 week internship averaging out at 12-15 hours per week (excluding the Unions quieter periods). The hourly rate will be £9.40 per hour (inclusive of holiday pay) also inclusive of London Allowance. Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
