2 QMUL students, Hazel Woodhead and Shobana Sivalingam, finalists for 2015 ‘Young People of the Year Awards
2 QMUL students, Hazel Woodhead and Shobana Sivalingam, were finalists for the 2015 ‘Young People of the Year Awards’, which is all about revealing, recognising and rewarding positive role models in London and Essex.
Hazel and Shobana set up the Bow Foodbank Volunteering Group in 2014 and have, since then, engaged over 100 QM students in helping with running the foodbank on a bi-weekly basis. They have worked hard to collect over 12,000 food items, enough to keep the foodbank going for 13 weeks or a quarter of a year.
The awards ceremony was held at Queen Mary University, on 21 November, and was presented and attended by a number of dignitaries and London Council representatives. Even though the girls didn’t win in their category, it was a massive accomplishment for them to be recognised alongside so many other inspirational young people.
