We caught up with your VP Barts and The London to find out more about his role and his plans for this year!
Your Students’ Union is led by four Executive Officers: your President, Vice-President Barts and The London, Vice-President Education and Vice-President Welfare. Your Executive Officers are students elected by the whole student body each year in the Union Elections. They work for you on all issues to do with student life, listen to what you want done and work with the relevant people to make it happen.
We caught up with your VP Barts and The London to find out more about his role and his plans for this year…
Can you describe what your role is at the Students’ Union and what you do for students?
My role is to represent students at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, and to campaign on matters relating directly to their education and welfare. I’m also responsible for heading up Barts and The London Students’ Association, which runs events, and supports BL sports, societies and student groups.
What are some of the goals you have for the Union this year and what campaigns are you going to be working on?
It’s going to be a busy year! I have plenty of campaigns planned to improve the educational experience for students studying at the School of Medicine and Dentistry (SMD), including better access to research projects and changes to medical school placements, as well as plans to run some of the best events BLSA has had yet!
Any advice you’d like to give to freshers starting in September?
Get stuck in and involved with the activities on offer, I can promise you won’t regret it! Your university years will be some of the best of your life, so make the most of them!
If you were stranded on a desert island and you could only take 3 things with you, what would they be?
1. A pair of swimming trunks, so I could swim around the island and keep fit
2. Ray Mears (survival expert)
3. An enormous fridge (with a massive battery) stocked with cold beer
