QMSU has received 2 awards for our green efforts from NUS Green Impact and Green Mary.
The Student Union’s Ethical and Environmental group, made up of Union staff and Executive Officers, has been working hard this year to make QMSU more environmentally friendly. Our green efforts have paid off and we have received not one but two awards, from NUS Green Impact and Green Mary respectively.
NUS Green Impact and Green Mary (run by QMUL Sustainability) are sustainability accreditation schemes, helping students and staff make their campuses and communities greener. QMSU has been awarded Silver by both initiatives, which celebrate ways we have been making positive sustainable choices as an organisation. These include a collection scheme in the SU Hub for recycling batteries and printer cartridges, as well as using sustainable food suppliers for our venues and cafés.
Sophia MacBlain, International Student Experience and Liaison Coordinator, and Bronwen Estaugh, Volunteering Coordinator, who both take part in the Union’s Ethical and Environmental group, attended the Green Mary Awards which were held on 6 July:
“Being awarded Silver by both Green Impact and Green Mary shows that the Students’ Union staff are committed to becoming more sustainable. We can’t wait to get students more involved and go for Gold next year!”
