It’s nearly time for the Welcome Fair, which takes place on Wednesday and Thursday this week.
Wed 23rd & Thur 24th | 10am-4pm | Ground, Students’ Union Hub & Hive
This year’s Welcome Fair (previously known as the Freshers’ Fair) is packed with over 200 student groups as well as stalls from some of your favourite brands, charitable organisations and new start-ups! Find out everything you need to know about societies, sports clubs, student media, volunteering, RAG and getting involved in activities that will help you make new friends, spark new interests and gain new skills and experiences.
There are two changes to this year’s Fair:
Quiet Hour
In response to feedback from Queen Mary students who have attended Welcome Fairs in past years, the Students’ Union will be opening the Welcome Fair an hour early for anyone with issues around sensitivity to noise and large crowds.
Welcome Fair opens to all students at 11.00 am, but we will be using the hour between 10.00 am and 11.00 am to offer students the opportunity the meet representatives from QMSU groups and societies in a quieter and more sedate environment. This quiet hour may appeal to people with physical access issues who have difficulties picking their way through large crowds, or sensory impairments, e.g. being hard of hearing, or who find large and noisy places difficult to communicate in. It may also appeal to anyone with issues with anxiety or a condition like Asperger’s Syndrome.
The fair will open up properly to all students from 11.00 am and we would encourage students without such requirements to enter the fair from 11.00 am onwards. If you have any queries about this, please contact Miranda Black, the Students' Union Vice President Welfare, on su-vpwelfare@qmul.ac.uk.
Multi-Faith Rooms
The Multi-Faith rooms will be temporarily closed to house stalls for the Fair, from noon on Tuesday September 22nd until the building reopens on Friday September 24th. There will be alternate rooms available for contemplation or prayer in the Francis Bancroft Building: G07 and 2.41. If you have any questions please speak to a staff member at reception.
