Whilst we hope that you will never have to use any of these services sometimes things happen whilst you are a student that you need some help with, whether this is an issue with your course or a health problem there are plenty of friendly people with the Students’ Union and the College who can help you with any problems or issues you have. Hopefully making your time at Queen Mary as hassle-free as it can be.

The Students’ Union runs a confidential independent academic advice service and has a dedicated member of staff to help guide you through the regulations and all the paperwork that goes with it. No one need struggle through the academic regulations on their own!

If you ever need to chat to someone Nightline (a confidential telephone helpline) is open throughout the night to provide information and support for students in London. We cover everything from housing and sexual health, to the location of the nearest kebab shop! Visit Nightline for more information.

Services and support offered by Queen Mary:

Advice and Counselling

The Advice and Counselling Service offers a free and confidential service to all Queen Mary students. They are able to offer support to students with a wide range of common student problems, including financial matters, mental wellbeing and adjusting to the changes of student life.

Disability and Dyslexia Service (DDS)

The Disability and Dyslexia Service (DDS) offers support for all Queen Mary and Barts and the London students with disabilities, specific learning difficulties and mental health issues at Queen Mary. They offer advice and guidance for a number of areas such as dyslexia testing, disabled student allowance, examination arrangements, and provides special one to one tuition and support workers.

Language and Learning

The Language and Learning Unit (LLU) provides a range of services. It offers intensive English language courses to prepare for undergraduate or masters level study. They provide a wide range of learning support services, which are open to all and are free of charge. These include insessional English courses , workshops and individual tutorials to help improve writing and study skills (including tutorials with a Royal Literary Fund Fellow) and academic support in mathematics and the sciences.

International Student Resources

As well as the information and advice we offered to all students, the Advice and Counselling Service offers international students specific advice on money, immigration and other practical aspects of living and studying in the UK 

Legal Advice Centre

The Queen Mary, University of London School of Law runs a free Legal Advice Centre which is open to the public, University staff and students. The Centre aims to offer a reliable service to those with legal difficulties. The advice is provided by students of the School of Law, and supported by legal professionals.

Careers Service

The Careers Service of Queen Mary, University of London aims to provide a comprehensive careers guidance and employment service to students.

The Havens

If you have been raped or sexually assaulted in the last 12 months, they are there to help you to recover physically and emotionally from your ordeal. Their staff are fully trained and hugely experienced. They are experts in advising, supporting and treating those who have experienced sexual violence. For more information visit their website.

Office of the Independent Adjudicator

The Office of the Independent Adjudicator for Higher Education ("OIA") operates an independent student complaints scheme pursuant to the Higher Education Act 2004.

All higher education institutions in England and Wales are required to comply with the scheme and the service is free to students.

Citizens Advice Bureau

The Citizens Advice service helps people resolve their legal, money and other problems by providing free, independent and confidential advice.

British Medical Association

The BMA is the doctors' professional organisation established to look after the personal and professional needs of doctors. It has a number of resources for medical students.

British Dental Association

The BDA is the dentists' professional organisation established to look after the personal and professional needs of dentists. It has a number of resources for dental students.

Trades Union Congress

The TUC is the voice of Britain at work. With 66 affiliated unions representing nearly seven million working people from all walks of life, they campaign for a fair deal at work and for social justice at home and abroad.
