Advice & Welfare: Nightline
What is Nightline?

Nightline is a confidential listening support service run by students for students in London. Calls cover all areas of student life, including relationship, course difficulties, debt and family problems, as well as information on cinema and club listings.

Calling a helpline for the first time may be a daunting experience. Rest assured that Nightline volunteers take thousands of calls from students every year; you are not alone in needing some external, impartial support. QMSU has affiliated to London Nightline so you can talk to someone if you need to.  Good luck!

How do I contact Nightline?

The lines are open from 6pm to 8am every night of term. Calling Nightline will cost the same as calling any London landline. They will also call you back if you are on a landline, although not on a mobile.

Phone:  020 7631 0101  - any hour of the night to talk about anything under the sun.

Alternatively, e-mail london@nightline.org.uk. For the new e-mail listening service, see the website at www.nightline.org.uk. You can also use Skype to contact Nightline.

Students are now able to contact Nightline online as well as via email and telephone. Our principles remain the same online; Nightline is totally committed to confidentiality and is here to listen and provide support to students, whatever the situation. For someone to talk to online, simply click on the ‘Speak to a Nightliner’ button on the following link: Nightline Online.

How to become a Nightline Volunteer?

Nightline is always on the look out for new student volunteers. If you want to put something positive back into the student community, meet a wide variety of students from across London, and impress potential employers London Nightline is run by students for students and therefore could not operate without its committed and enthusiastic volunteers. If you're a good listener and think you could be empathetic and non-judgmental to students calling on a wide range of issues, even if it's at 4.00am, perhaps you should consider volunteering. Volunteers agree to do a minimum of three duties per term, as well as attend on-going training and support meetings. A duty is from 6.00pm to 8.00am and will always be carried out with at least one other volunteer. You will usually get some sleep, and yes we do have beds! No previous experience is required, all they ask is that you are aged 18 or over and are a student in London. Full training is given. London Nightline is partly run by its volunteers who have the opportunity to get involved in all aspects of the organisation's work e.g. publicity, fund raising, training, organising social events; all of which look good on your CV!

If you would like to volunteer please email volunteer@nightline.org.uk
