Awards & Criteria

There are many different awards that we recognise at the Education Awards. These awards are categorised into three groups: Course Rep Awards, Student Council Awards and Teaching Awards. Please see all of the awards, criteria and the winners below.


Course Rep Awards

This award is for an outstanding Course Rep from Humanities and Social Sciences, who goes above and beyond the call of duty to make life better for the students on their course. This award is nominated by students and staff. All Course and Subject Reps from HSS are Eligible for this award.

 

This award is for an outstanding Course Rep from Science and Engineering, who goes above and beyond the call of duty to make life better for the students on their course. This award is nominated by students and staff. All Course and Subject Reps from S&E are Eligible for this award.

 

This award is for an outstanding Course Rep from Medicine and Dentistry, who goes above and beyond the call of duty to make life better for the students on their course. This award is nominated by students and staff. All Course and Subject Reps from SMD are Eligible for this award.

 

This award is for an outstanding PGR Subject Rep from any faculty, research area or subject, who goes the extra mile to improve the experience for their peers. This award is nominated by students and staff. All Postgraduate Research Subject Reps are Eligible for this award.

This award is for two or more Course Reps who have worked together to create change. These can be a group of course reps for one course, or collaboration between two or more courses.

 

This award is for an individual or group of Course Reps who have campaigned on or achieved significant change to the academic experience, including but not limited to championing sustainability within academia, improving assessment and feedback, championing innovation within online learning and challenging unsuitable facilities.

 

Student Council Awards

This award is for an elected student who has gone above and beyond in their role to ensure students in their School are effectively represented and receive an exceptional student experience. Eligible Student Council Officers include School Representatives from HSS and S&E, including the Clinical Representative, Pre-clinical Representative, Allied Courses Representative and Dental Faculty Representative from the SMD.

 

This award is for an elected student who has gone above and beyond in their role to ensure postgraduates in their faculty are effectively represented and receive an exceptional student experience. Eligible Student Council Officers include Postgraduate Taught Reps for HSS, S&E and SMD, and the Postgraduate Research Reps for HSS, S&E and SMD.

 

This award is for an elected member of Student Council for organising and running a campaign that has had a significant positive impact on a large group of students.

 

This award is for an elected student councillor, who has collected high quality feedback from the students they represent, taken it forward effectively and worked hard to make a change for the benefit of students. All Student Council positions are eligible for this award.

 

This award is for an elected member of Student Council who has gone above and beyond in their elected role to champion the needs of students at Queen Mary. All Student Council positions are eligible for this award.

 

Teaching Awards

This award is for an outstanding all-round teacher who is enthusiastic about their subject, shows commitment to getting the best out of their students and who's teaching always leaves them wanting more.

 

This award is for an Academic Advisor or Personal Tutor who has provided you with excellent academic and/or pastoral support.

 

This award is for a member of Academic or Careers and Enterprise staff, who has championed employability skills in the curriculum, or the student learning environment. Championing Employability includes organising skills sessions, incorporating skills development into classes, organising authentic assessments or promoting work based networking to help students become employable!

 

This award is for a member of academic or assessment staff who sets the benchmark in assessment and feedback. They provide detailed and helpful feedback in a timely manner and create an environment to ensure students achieve their best possible outcomes.

 

This award is for a member of academic or support staff who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to student representation. Nominations for this award may only be made by Course Reps and School Reps.

 

This award is for a lecturer, supervisor, tutor or teaching assistant who uses technology innovatively to really enhance their delivery of learning and teaching. This includes the use of technology to encourage and enhance interactive learning and engagement, with a focus on online teaching and MME.

 

This award is for a supervisor who has gone above and beyond to offer outstanding support to one or more postgraduate research students.

 

This award is for postgraduate students who deliver teaching, not those who teach postgraduates. This award is for outstanding teaching or support from a postgraduate teaching assistant, demonstrator or advisor.

 

This award is for that hard-working member of staff working hard behind the scenes, whose work has a real impact on the quality of your life at Queen Mary. Staff from all professional and support services are eligible, and departments include but are not limited to Advice and Counselling Service, Chaplaincy Service, Disability and Dyslexia Service, Student Health Service, Careers and Enterprise, Security, Library and Academic Skills and IT services.

 

This award is to celebrate a member of teaching or academic staff who has incorporated sustainability into their teaching or activities for students this year. Examples of relevant sustainability topics include but are not limited to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
