As London's oldest student physics society, founded in 1932, PsiStar welcomes anyone with an interest in the many fields of physics.
Whether you have a passion for the universe, artificial intelligence, technology, or any other physical specialism, join us to meet like-minded, enthusiastic people. We welcome undergraduates, postgraduates, academics, and associates from all backgrounds and levels of expertise to discover and share their love for physics.
What do we do?
Membership grants you access to our calendar of entertaining and educational events, which are split into four distinct categories:
Social Events: From nights out to recreational activities, we host a wide range of socials. These provide an excellent opportunity to make friends and connect with members across different academic years.
Academic Events: We host external speakers, alumni, and university academics who share insights into their roles in STEM. These talks help you explore various career paths and make the transition into the workplace smoother once you graduate.
Cultural Events: Recognising the diversity within Queen Mary is essential, particularly within the physics department. We celebrate the different cultures on campus, exploring their traditions and highlighting the contributions of physicists from all backgrounds.
International Trips: Every year, we organise two trips abroad to destinations renowned for their scientific significance, more than any other academic society. Whether touring major research facilities or observing phenomena such as the Northern Lights, we offer these adventures to our members at a subsidised rate.
Collaborations: As a founding member of QUIRK+, PsiStar frequently collaborates with physics societies across the UK and Europe, including formal dinners at Cambridge University and games nights with our sister societies at other London universities.
Student memberships are only £6 for the year, so sign up with us!
Please note: although most of our events are subsidised, you may need to pay a contribution fee.
