Hear from our Volunteer Champions

Our Volunteer Champions lead all of our Give Volunteering a Go opportunities. Afterwards, they write about their experiences. Why not read the reports and find out which opportunities you would like to try?

Big Half Marathon - 10th March 2019

13 of us arrived at Canary Wharf at 8am in our shocking pink windbreakers provided by the Vitality Big Half Marathon organiser. We are then swiftly paired up to marshall along the course of the run. Although the weather was disappointing with light rain and cold wind early in the morning, the sun soon peeked its head just before the runners reached our part of the course. The wind was mischievous, blowing caps off the marathon runners as they ran against the strong gusts, while we rushed to rescue their blown off items! It was fun as we cheered them on to "brave the wind" when we could barely stand firm on the ground ourselves! Extreme weathers seem to like marathons a lot (at least when I volunteered!) Really appreciate all the volunteers who spent their free time on a Sunday to help out in the marathon! You were all amazing! - Li Ying Lim
