Environmental sustainability is one of the most important issues facing society. Large organisations, such as Universities, can have a significant impact through embedding sustainable development into education, reducing carbon emissions and cutting waste.

At Queen Mary Students' Union, we are committed to embedding sustainability in all that we do;

  • A Greener Students’ Union - We are taking steps to reduce the environmental impact of our operations through participating in the national Students Organising for Sustainability (SOS-UK) Green Impact accreditation. We received an ‘Excellent’ award in 2018/19, 2019/20, 2020/21 and 2021/2022!!
  • Campaigning & Influencing - We support students to run environmental campaigns and initiatives to champion institution-wide sustainable change relating to social and environmental impact on campus.
  • Local Sustainability - We ensure that our positive impact extends beyond campus through providing opportunities for students to volunteer and have a direct impact on the local environment and local communities.
