Welcome to Cultural Unity Week
At Queen Mary, we're proud to celebrate the rich diversity of our student body. Cultural Unity Week is an initiative designed to bring students together, fostering an inclusive environment where cultural exchange and understanding thrive. Now in its second consecutive year, the week continues to build on its success, having been recognised as the Best New Liberation Initiative in the 2024–25 academic year.
This dedicated week is more than just a celebration, it’s a platform to explore the unique perspectives, traditions, and stories that make our community vibrant and diverse. By creating spaces for dialogue, creativity, and shared experiences, Cultural Unity Week encourages meaningful interactions that transcend cultural boundaries. It’s an opportunity for students from all walks of life to connect, learn from one another, and build lasting bonds rooted in mutual respect and appreciation.
Cultural Unity Week also marks the culmination of this year’s Liberation Calendar, celebrating a series of impactful campaigns delivered across the academic year. This includes initiatives such as the QMSU/BLSA Global Continental Project, alongside a range of student-led activities that have championed representation, inclusion, and global perspectives across campus.
Following two terms by the Vice President Liberation, International and Postgraduate Officer, Hassam Naeem, the legacy will continue to grow in future. The newly established Intercultural Society, launched in 2025, will carry this work forward as a student-led initiative, ensuring that the spirit of Cultural Unity Week remains embedded in the Queen Mary community for years to come.
Cultural Unity Week embodies Queen Mary’s commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion. It reinforces the belief that our differences enrich us and that collaboration across cultures enhances our academic and social experiences. Together, we celebrate not only our individuality but also the collective strength of our multicultural student community.
Join us as we embrace the beauty of cultural unity, amplifying voices, bridging gaps, and inspiring a sense of belonging that extends beyond campus life.
Hassam Naeem, Vice President Liberation, International and Postgraduates
