Candidate for the position of Postgraduate Taught Representative (HSS)

AMMAAR IKRAM

 Hello everyone!

My name is Ammaar Ikram and I’m an MSc Computing and Information Systems student running to be your Postgraduate Taught Representative for Mile End!

Why should you vote for me?

Well, I have a plethora of experience within my former Students’ Union at Brunel University J Whilst I appreciate every SU is unique and different to one another, there are some similarities when looking at the functions of each position!

I was previously:

  • Student Assembly Member: this means I know how to hold FTOs and PTOs to account and will be inquisitive when necessary.
  • Scrutiny Committee Member: I was part of an executive team that scrutinised the accountability reports of the FTOs and made suggestions for areas of improvement.
  • Community Campaigns Officer:  Democratically-elected part time role to engage the local community and assist the FTOs on issues relating to education and tackling racism.
  • Vice-President CBASS: Democratically-elected, full-time role representing students in the College of Business, Art and Social Sciences. Focus on welfare support alongside academic delivery.

What will I do for you?

  • Lobby the university surrounding timetabling issues for PGT students. Concerns raised about back-to-back-to-back lectures with no break, which minimises effective studying and general focus.
  • Work towards a system of more available space and resources (including computers) for PGT students. There are over 6600 PGT students; yet congestion of space is still a major concern!
  • Explore the possibility for PGT students to ‘shadow’ or work alongside academics/professors/lecturers for invaluable experience & professional skills
  • Engage PGT students in the Students’ Union through utilising campaigns, societies and student media.

If you share this vision, remember everyone – Vote Ammaar #1 PGT Representative for Mile End Campus!!!
