Vote Darcey
For School of Engineering and Materials Science Representative
I am currently a second-year student in my third year at QMUL completing an MEng in Material Science and Engineering with Foundation year.
I also work for QMSU in the retail outlets on campus – Village Shop and Union Shop.
INVOLVEMENT
As a foundation year student, there is often a disconnect felt between you and the main school that you will later integrate into. I aim to begin better integration and involvement of these students into the faculty which they will later bring a valuable contribution to. This can be achieved through an optional mentoring programme and through regular support from academics. This will allow SEMS to welcome students from foundation in a seamless way.
COHESION
Improving cohesion between QMSU and SEMS will allow students to have their feedback and changes actioned faster within the school. I am able to use my experience within the SU to do this in the most effective way. Working closer with the Student Union would mean that the wellbeing and interests of the students are a priority more than ever before.
ACTIVITY
Students not part of societies can often feel far removed from typical university life. I aim to increase the number of events, both academic and social, that are not course or society specific. This will allow greater participation across the wider SEMS community which promotes networking skills in a less pressured setting.
COMMUNICATION
Giving feedback and implementing suggested changes is the best way to improve SEMS as a whole. Module evaluation forms can often feel a very regimented way to voice concerns and so I aim to act as a point of contact between the student body and staff for any opinions, both positive and negative. This provides an opportunity for a less daunting situation which still leads to improvement.
Ideas of change start within the student body and with your vote I can be its voice.
Take a positive step, vote Darcey for SEMS rep.
