Manifesto

Amy Dowse
Disability and Specific Learning Differences (SLD) Rep

About Me.

I’ve completed my BSc and MSc at QMUL, and I’m now in the second year of my PhD in Computer Science.

I started QMUL without any diagnosed learning differences, but I have since been diagnosed with multiple.

I have been a Student Ambassador and Demonstrator every year of my taught courses.

Advocate for you.

I have experienced every stage of study and disability at QMUL. I can understand the issues faced by a huge range of students.

I promise to advocate for your needs.

Everyone’s experience of disability and SLD’s is unique so I will listen to you and champion your issues.

You are not alone.

It’s a huge comfort to know you are not alone in your struggles.

I will create a blog where students can write anonymous posts about their experiences so that others do not feel alone.

Future employment.

University doesn’t last forever, so it’s important to prepare for what’s next.

I will organise talks from people in industry, sharing their experience and advice on working with a disability.

DSA support.

If you have a disability or SLD, you might be eligible for Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA) support.

I will create a simple comprehensive guide to explain your options and help you access DSA.

Virtual learning.

I will make sure you have the same support and opportunities as you would if we were on campus.
