Happy Nowruz! I am extremely delighted to have this opportunity to express my joy and excitement for this coming new year. May the new year bring happiness and health to your families.
I am Amir, a 2nd year chemistry student here at Queen Mary and would like to stand for the Cultural Officer position.
What I have to Offer
The diversity, elegance and the richness of Persian heritage and culture has always fascinated me and since I grew up in a family of artists and creatives, I was able to explore the Persian art, music and literature at its true glory.
Given the chance, I would like to better share, explore and celebrate our beautiful heritage with all Iranians and non-Iranians studying in Queen Mary. In addition, as a family member of an established Persian Fine Art Gallery in London, I would like to use my experiences and connections in art industry to showcase some of the best Iranian artworks, art and crafts in Queen Mary.
My Main Goals
One of my main goals is to organise art exhibitions and possibly painting workshops - showcasing Persian Art and Architecture through exhibiting artworks from both Master and young talented Iranian artists.
In addition, as an effective method of attracting more members and enthusiasts, I would like to plan painting, drawing and origami lessons and workshops. Organise food and drink, dance and music festivals in collaboration with other cultural societies.
Furthermore, I will work closely with the event coordinator to launch many more exciting events, all which is only possible with the full cooperation of all members.
My Hobbies
I love art and painting; my medium of choice is watercolour and acrylic – I have also exhibited my artworks twice in London. I enjoy practicing origami (ancient Japanese art of folding paper) and have developed new designs and patterns, one of which is for drug delivery system.
To conclude
Iranian society plays a key role in presenting and restoring the true Iranian culture and identity in Queen Mary and in London. Hence, as the cultural officer alongside all the Iranian society members, I will employ my experiences to facilitate this role.
