Namaste!! I’m Shivani, and I’m a first year geography student. I think I would make a great sanskaar coordinator as, although I’ve been brought up in the UK, my roots lay with Bharat.
I’ve grown up religious and maintained my culture so I can say I’m a proud Hindu and hope to create an atmosphere for students to feel a home away from home and stay in touch with their Hindu traditions, and sanskaars!
How would I do that? Given my strong passion for music teamed with the Hindustani singing lessons I had for 10 years straight, I think I could definitely have some fun leading our weekly/ bi-weekly aaratis.
I’ve been a part of Hindu societies from a young age and have worked closely with mandirs around me on sewa projects. As well as this I’ve had strong engagement with NHSF and can engrain that into our society by taking discussions; for example those on being a 21st century British hindu, talks on Hindu philosophy and explorations of our arts.
Because of the experience I have had in organising religious events I hope I’ll not only be able to lead, but also make sure everyone else feels comfortable enough to contribute and participate.
I aim to translate my approachable nature into making our events more engaging and student friendly, by working with not only other QM societies but also the HinduSocs of others in London to create a big family environment.
I want to use this opportunity to make sure we all gain the most out of our Hindu society at the end of the day, by not only feeling more sanskaari but having networked and made stronger connections and friends across unis! :)
Thank you! Vote Shivani!
