Dear all,

For many, a treasurer’s role is rather blurry, some sort of unspoken number management, very little questioned for maths is often one of the very reasons you chose law ;). It is no less important to acknowledge that the treasurer’s strategy directly affects the society’s eco-social balance and plays a good part in determining its board’s scope of success. For such a substantive matter, you must trust the person you elect, and more importantly, their action plan. My action plan is straightforward: the AJQS encloses a fair amount of potential that we ought to develop as it is our turn to run our projects. In this regard, I suggest we secure the capital that the former board will leave us (cf step 1 — manage), and begin to draw a positive growth curve (cf step 2 — increase). Such work should lead us to step 3 where we get to enjoy targeted events. If you think about it closely, the plan more or less works like a springboard : 3 steps, initial support, jump and… then the fun part.

Now bear with me, I know no one likes reading massively long paragraphs. But for the sake of transparency I wish to discuss a few points as to where the money will go (because if we keep it simple, it is all  about banking, really) :

                1. The starting point of the year is key

We ought to do our best to prevent a false start from happening. The beginning of the year demands great monetary means to fulfil expectations, and we need to anticipate those quickly. Both applications to the Student Union grant scheme and fundraising events require to be effectively planned out in the respect of deadlines. Sponsors, on the other hand, will contribute to the long term society’s supply and can be given more flexibility.

                2. Transparent balance sheets, what format?

Full disclosure is ideal. Although they are some limitations as to what can be disclosed,  it will be one of my priorities to keep you informed regarding the use of the funds. Indicative curves and estimations will be used to keep track of the board's plan throughout the year.

                3. Special close up on the collaboration with Social Events Officers / Legal Events Officers

Pointing out the obvious, both duos of event officers will be on the front line for financial support to enable them to carry out their goals. Yet treasury could serve them for a greater purpose. Collaborative fundraising events imply real work that only Social Events Officers can carry out. The same applies to Legal Events Officers, who will have a chance to get the best out of our partnerships and organise legal events with our sponsors.

I hope you will trust me with your money for a wealthier future.
