Uniting North African's ,giving them a sense of belonging, vibes, and first-class events.
Hi, I’m Maria, a current first-year undergraduate psychology student, from Algiers Algeria, and hope to be your Vice President for the 22/23 academic year inshallah. What has inspired me to go for this role, is by wanting to be involved in elevating North African society, and reshaping it into the best cultural society at Queen Mary.
In terms of my experience, I’ve held a variety of previous leadership roles starting with being an events officer in Arab society, combined with my role of general secretary for this year's North African society. My debut of hosting a successful event during the recent North African cultural night, showcased that I am capable of much more, whilst also enabling me to enhance both my leadership and communication which is an important asset to have as a vice-president. With my experience combined with my deterministic and lively character, I am confident that I will be able to bring you the best in terms of leadership, and I look forward to working with the president and committee to deliver you all a year of nostalgic and unforgettable events.
Future plans
- To continue building upon the foundation laid out by this year’s committee, and use this to help North African society grow.
-I want to be part of the journey of helping people feel in touch with their cultural roots and create a family foundation in North African society.
-Push for weekly/bi-weekly events where more socials are run during the year, to build a sense of community and help people to better get to know each other.
-A North African gala, as well as several international trips.
-More collaboration events with other North African societies, within the region and beyond.
-Inclusivity, more Sudanese, Tunisian, Libyan and Egyptian-themed events.
