About Me:

My name is Anwar, a 2nd year MSci Mathematical Sciences student with a passion for spreading the wonders of Maths. Like many others, I have been inspired by the outreach of popular educational YouTubers such as Numberphile, 3Blue1Brown, and Veritasium. Their work has impassioned me to go on my own journey of outreach, where I aim to make enjoying Mathematics easy for everyone. For too long, we have been without an active Mathematics Society. My vision is to return our society to its award-winning status. No more will students be forced to miss out on such a vital university experience.

Future Plans:

On top of taking in as much feedback as possible from members, I intend to make attending shows (e.g. AEOUD) and other events common to make up for the society's absence. I plan to host monthly meetups so maths enthusiasts can finally have a place to share their passion with like-minded individuals in a casual environment. Regular talks will be held, whether it be by the lecturers we know and love and industry professionals, or members and alumni who want to share their love for the subject. I'd also like to introduce a problem of the week/month. This will be a novel and interesting problem for members to work on together and solve for a potential prize. My goal is to create a friendly environment for socialising and exchanging ideas that's welcoming to all students, whether they study Mathematics or not.

Committee Positions:

I would like to introduce more committee members to further the reach of the society:

  • Social Media Manager - They will run our social media accounts and ensure online engagement with members as well as handle publicity.
  • Puzzle Master - They will produce/provide problems for the weekly/monthly problems.
  • Opportunity and Careers Manager - They will oversee careers opportunities and share them with members.

Closing Remarks:

The pandemic has meant that we have been unable to make the most out of time at Queen Mary. I hope I can do my small part in making everyone's time at this university as fruitful as possible. I keenly look forward to seeing you all next year.
