Candidate for the position of Treasurer

Jonathan Chiu

My name is Jonathan Chiu and I believe I’m the ideal candidate to fulfil this role. I study Mathematics and Computer Science and I am currently a second-year student. I have interests in finance and so managing the funds of the maths society will be my main priority to ensure that the society runs smoothly.

One objective is to ensure that the funds of the maths society are used so that we can hold more social events whilst also making maths more fun. Due to the COVID pandemic, there has been a lack of social events with us fellow mathematicians and so I thoroughly agree these events should be planned at least every other week.

A second objective is that I also aim to ensure that funding is managed well so that we can get more sponsorship opportunities and guest speakers who are experts in their specific field of study. This way we can all learn beyond what is taught in our modules thus stimulating our interests in maths.

A final objective is that I would like to represent the underrepresented, I am from an ethnic minority background and so I strive to ensure that more BAME students and women in maths are more represented in the STEM world. I believe this is an important issue since mathematics should have more equal representation.
