Hey! I’m Asya, currently a 2nd year medic and I would love to be a part of the Teddy Bear Hospital committee next year, specifically as a Team Leader!

Over the last year I’ve had the opportunity to become familiar with the society, through volunteering at clinics and as part of SSC2c. I really enjoyed my time at clinics as educating the children whilst contributing to easing their fears felt extremely rewarding. Clinics also allowed me to have an outlet for my enthusiasm and enjoyment for working alongside children, which I feel came across well and was reflected in my Volunteer of the Week award. TBH SSC further solidified my interest in wanting to be a part of the ‘behind the scenes’ of these clinics as I gained a closer insight into the roles of Team Leaders and how much effort goes into preparation and leading of the clinics.

I believe my previous experience working closely alongside children makes me a suitable candidate for this role. My role as part of a fostering family has exposed me to a variety of children of varying ages with various conditions – particularly autism – which I feel has enabled the diverse development of my communication skills. Having to work closely alongside family and social workers also further developed my ability to work efficiently in a team. Additionally, tutoring primary school children for SATs to 11+ grammar school exams allowed for the development of leadership and time management skills – something I would like to further explore in this role.

Thank you so much for taking the time out to read this- I would love if you helped give me the opportunity to be a part of such an amazing society!
