I want to maintain and further develop Japan Society as an inclusive, friendly environment where people can learn about and engage with Japanese culture.

To do this, I plan to organise a variety of frequent and regular events internally and in collaboration with other societies.

These would include regular game nights where Japanese games, especially card games, would be played. This would allow people to meet each other in a friendly and accessible environment whilst engaging in Japanese culture. People would also be able to learn and practice speaking Japanese as they would be exposed to new terms in the game.

Additionally, I would organise regular film screenings, showing a variety of Japanese films. This would allow people to meet and interact in a relaxed environment as they learn about and participate in Japanese culture. It would also enable people to practice their language skills.

I would also organise special events, such as calligraphy sessions, origami sessions, and shogi tournaments, to provide a fun, accessible opportunity for people to participate in aspects of Japanese culture which may be new to them.

All of these events would work well during collaborations and create a fun atmosphere aligning with the society’s ethos.

I am a suitable candidate as I have experience currently organising a high profile film screening event on QMUL involving external visitors, such as the Argentine ambassador to the UK. This was done as part of Thinking Inside The Box, a collaborative project involving people across the University of London and the University of Leeds. This has allowed me to display and develop my organisation and communication skills as I worked in a team to keep to strict deadlines. It also means I am familiar with the procedures needed to organise events and how they should be organised.

Likewise, I have joined events from many societies, all of which hosted different types of events in different ways. This will allow me to efficiently assess the best way to host an event and organise it.

Most importantly, I am passionate about Japanese culture and an active member of Japan society. I regularly attend the language learning sessions and have also joined other social events. This means that I will strive to bring the best experience to attendees.

In conclusion, I will maintain Japan Society as an inclusive and friendly environment where people can learn about and participate in Japanese culture.
