Candidate for the position of QMBL Ahlulbayt Islamic Society - Vice President Campaigning and Outreach

Syed Reza Hussain

After a successful year as Vice President at the QMUL AhlulBayt Society, I intend to return as (vice) president to serve the needs of the Shi’a students on campus.

We intend to carry on with our regular events, aiming for consistency in both frequency and quality of events. From student led Dua Kumayl Discussion Circles addressing current topics affecting us as youth and issues related to Tashayyu, to external speaker events where we invite a Sheikh or reciter to inform us about specific topics.

This year, I want to bring on more social events that encourage the establishment of the ABsoc as a community rather than a society. That includes archery sessions, mini-golf and restaurant dining. Last year, it was great to see the brothers establishing Salatul Jama’ah for Dhuhr/Asr on Fridays and other days when students were present on campus for prayers, and this is something we intend to continue developing. Of course, there will also be social events for the sisters, which will be led and organised by the sisters on our committee.

Our discussion events tend to focus on practical points of religion that we can implement in our lives, seeking AhlulBayt (AS) as our role models. For example, forgotten aspects of the Sunnah of the Prophet (SAWA), as well as examining the biographies of the Ai’mmah - particular the latter Imams whom we know less about - and strengthening our relationship with Imam al-Mahdi, Sahib uz-Zamaan (AJTF).

Queen Mary ABsoc is proud to host our annual flagship event, which is the Mawlid of Imam Ali (A). This is a great celebration involving a Sheikh giving a talk, as well as anasheed recitation, clapping, games, desserts and food… An exciting night not to be missed

It would be my honour to serve Queen Mary AhlulBayt Society for another year, as (vice) president, hoping to fulfil the expectations of all our members, insha’Allah!
