Hi! I'm Nicholas and I'm a first-year student from Singapore. I'm running for President and Marketing Director.

Japan Society has been an important part in my uni experience as a first-year international student. When first starting uni, it was hard to find opportunities to meet new people. Japan Society was one of the places which allowed me to connect with people and make important friends. Friends who made living in a foreign country feel less lonely and made me feel like I was part of a community away from home.

Seeing how Japan Society helped me make new friends, I knew that I wanted to play a part in that process of connecting people through Japanese culture.

As President, I hope to organise more interesting and meaningful events, giving people the opportunity to make friends and learn more about Japanese culture. Aside from fun social events, I hope to continue the work that the previous council has done in creating platforms for students who are looking to work in Japan or connect with people from Japan. Having held leadership positions in High School, in the military and having worked in a production team for a Theatre Company, I’m confident in my ability not only to lead others, but to empower others to lead and create a committee environment where all voices are heard.

As Marketing Director, I would like to use the opportunity to expand or society and involve people who might not have previously considered joining. Having experience in poster design and video editing, I hope to help share the great experiences we have during our events. I also have a strong interest in Social Media management and hope to use the platforms we have to immortalise the memories made during our events.

While I hope to be able to create many meaningful opportunities to learn more about Japan and its culture, I also hope that I can play a part in continuing this warm and welcoming community of people with similar interests. I would be grateful to be able to play any part in sharing the wonderful experiences I’ve had in this society with other students.  I’m so thankful for all the work the current council has put in and hope to continue all the great work they have done. I humbly ask for your vote.
