Amir Hisham Hassan

My name is Amir, and I’m eager to lead the Ahlulbayt society into a new framework of events. Click here to see my manifesto and my aims and plan for the year. I am excited to be your president next year!

Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim

All praises belong to God, the Most Merciful, the Most Gracious, the Most Powerful. May God sanctify Muhammad and the family of Muhammad. O you who claims to be Muslim! O you who claims to follow the Ahlul Bayt [a.]! O you laymen! O you searchers of truth! O you seekers of knowledge! O you knowledgable! Here is my testament to you in this blessed month of Ramadan.

My name is Amir Hisham Hassan and I’m a first-year law student I go by the kunya Ibn Hisham and as a student of knowledge, I am determined to uphold the traditions of Ahlulbayt and I swear by the One who sent Muhammad Ibn Abdullah Al-Hashimi Al-Qurayshi, I will uphold the Quran and Sunnah.

Just as Islam began as something strange, those who seek to revive its true essence and follow the teachings of Ahlulbayt may find themselves in a similar position. Yet, blessed are those who uphold the teachings of the Ahlulbayt, for they are the strangers in a world of deviation. The problem befalling the Tashayyu today is a lack of insight and a lack of unity under the true message of Ahlulbayt [a]. What is apparent is that there is a lack of textual basis (ahadith) in religious discussions which has led to many Shi’is being sadly unfamiliar with key corpus texts such as Al-Kafi. It is for this reason that many Shi’is have become confused about their aqeedah. What is apparent is that Shi’ism has become a vague majlis culture, the real spirit of Ahlulbayt has left our centres and been replaced by countless innovations/bid’ahs which claim to have something to do with Ahlulbayt when in reality these things are done for the sake of themselves and not for a greater purpose and go against the Quran and Sunnah.

My aim in running for president of the Ahlulbayt society is to restore the true essence of Tashayyu and revive the traditions we were instructed by and do this through emphasis on Quran & ahadith. Abi Abdullah (Imam Hussain) a.s has said: “Seeking knowledge is obligatory” and therefore I will make it my duty as your president to structure events around seeking knowledge from the purest and most original source which is the ahadith of Ahlulbayt. Events will include how to tackle and begin reading key corpus texts such as Al Kafi as it can be very daunting and at times challenging, however, through some guidance and discussion we can better understand these key texts together through subsequent collective readings of key ahadith. In turn, this will allow us to understand our fundamental beliefs better and strengthen them. Additionally, lectures around aqeedah mainly on the concept of Tawheed and the oneness of Allah from the Shi’i perspective will also take place. I believe it is also important to use the sayings of Ahlulbayt and their traditions in analysing pressing societal issues and therefore readings and lectures won’t only focus on the past but also the present and the future.

“The believers are but brothers” and therefore future events will also revolve around strengthening brotherhood in the form of socials. One of the events I hope to organise is a collective hike which will allow brothers to bond with each other, get away from the city life and unplug as well as appreciate the creation of Allah SWT.
