Fresh Perspectives, Stronger Society.
Dear Law Society Members,
My name is Yesol, and I am a first-year law student from South Korea (and the UAE & Türkiye). As an active member of QMLS, I have decided to run for the position of Secretary this year!
Why me? Here are some of the things I have achieved throughout my academic career:
- Recipient of the First-Year Law Scholarship
- AS First 2025 with Aspiring Solicitors
- Events Officer at Lawyers Without Borders
- Assistant Manager at the Pro Bono Society + Pro Bono Placements with BCLP & Dentons
- Note-Taker at the Legal Advice Centre
- Published Author of Your Guide to Secondary Level English on Amazon
- Published Researcher on South Korean Criminal Law
- President of 4 Long-Term School Organisations
As the Law Society Secretary, some of the things I aim to do are:
1. Seamless Communication & Engagement: I will ensure that all meeting minutes are shared with members, achieving timely and clear communication. I will also conduct biweekly updates via email to all members, so that everyone has access to the various events that are being planned by QMLS.
2. Innovative Opportunities for Members: I will create more mentorship and internship programs for our members. This includes mentoring for opportunities with Aspiring Solicitors and the scholarship opportunities offered by the School of Law, which I now have a very clear idea of after receiving the First-Year Scholarship! I will also expand the Law Society by creating more committee roles, so that the society continues to make all activities into a group effort.
3. Efficient Collaboration & Inclusivity: I will guarantee efficient internal management through highly detailed meeting notes, and help plan more collaborative law-related events with the other societies at Queen Mary. I will also send monthly feedback & satisfaction surveys to members, ensuring that every member of the society has a voice in developing and creating a lasting legacy of QMLS.
4. A Fresh Perspective: I am running this year for Secretary precisely due to not having been on the committee before. With every approaching school year, a fresh perspective and addition to any society would be greatly beneficial; if elected, I will apply what I have gained from my past presidencies in school and current society roles to QMLS, as well as creating a more visible representative of all law students in 2025/26!
All promises made above are ones I WILL fulfil. If you have any queries or suggestions, feel free to reach out to me on LinkedIn or Instagram. I’d love to connect and discuss further!
