Running because money shouldn't get in the way of the start of your career in law

I ran for Treasurer a few months ago when there was a vacancy and didn't win then but that isn't going to stop me.

I am determined to make YOUR money work HARDER because it shouldn't get in the way of the start of your career in law.

As Treasurer for the largest society on campus, I want to:
  • Promote access to the society by reducing the membership fee (one of the highest membership fees at Queen Mary) by increasing student engagement, creating term-based memberships and one off tickets for law events
  • Create a scheme to cover travel costs to in-office events for students from lower income backgrounds
  • Manage funds from our sponsors efficiently and to make your money last longer for this year and the years to come
  • Gather funds by building connections with new sponsors to enhance new opportunities from a range of both commercial and non-commercial firms
  • Continue creating exciting events for a lower cost while maintaing the same high quality (e.g. reduce the fee for the Law Ball)
  • Co-operate with other societies (saving you another society's membership fee!)

These are only some of my ideas. I intend on achieving them and I have a proven track record to back this up:

  • I am an Italian-Vietnamese student who moved to London for my law degree - I know first-hand how important managing finances is, from having to navigate an unfamiliar cost of living, a new currency, and foreign environment.
  • I am a Notetaker at the Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre where I have now undertaken 4 cases (as opposed to the standard 2-3) by volunteering when others were unable to. You can believe that I will show up for your interests because they are just as important as mine.
  • I am a Witness Service Volunteer at Citizens Advice Bureaux where I have witnessed the limitations placed on individuals by money so I know how important it is to step in to help.
I also haven't been on the committee before so I bring with me a fresh, new perspective while sharing the previous committee's same determination in improving YOUR chances at building the career in law YOU want.

Vote for Sofia Galimberti because money shouldn't get in the way of the start of your career in law.
