Wellbeing, Strong Community, Supporting for Our Future Lawyers ⚖️

Dear Law Society Members,

I am Dre Cha, and delighted to be standing as a candidate for Welfare Officer in this election!

As a law school student, I understand that academic performance, events, and experience are all important. However, building resilience is also essential for achieving success in these areas. And I can help you develop this skill.

I would work to support you in the following ways as a welfare officer:

🤲 Mental Wellbeing & Emotional Support

Law school can be overwhelming, with students often facing intense academic pressure and competition. I will work towards ensuring that all students have access to the emotional and psychological support they need. This includes:

  • Monthly “Wellbeing Check-ins”: Informal drop-in sessions where students can share concerns and receive peer support.

  • Counselling & Therapy Accessibility: Collaborating with Queen Mary’s counselling team to improve awareness and accessibility of mental health resources tailored for law students.

  • Stress Management & Resilience Workshops: Hosting sessions with guest speakers, like alumni, to provide practical strategies on handling academic stress and career anxiety.

🤝 Community Building & Peer Support

A strong support network is key to thriving in law school. I will create initiatives that foster inclusivity, collaboration, and a sense of belonging within the law school community:

  • “Law Buddies” Mentorship Programme: Pairing students with upper-year or experienced mentors for guidance on academics, networking, and overall law school life.

  • “De-Stress with Law Society” Socials: Organising informal events such as coffee chats, board game nights, and well-being retreats to help students unwind and connect with their peers.

  • Diversity & Inclusion Forums: Ensuring that every student feels represented by hosting open discussions on mental health, imposter syndrome, and inclusion in the legal field.

🙌 A Student-First Approach

I believe in creating initiatives that are shaped by students' actual needs. I will:

  • Send Monthly Welfare Feedback Surveys to ensure that every student’s voice is heard.

  • Advocate for Mental Health Days where students can take a break from academic stress without feeling guilty.

  • Collaborate with the Law School Faculty to introduce policies that better support students struggling with personal or mental health challenges.

Thank you so much for reading, and truly appreciate your vote 🥰

Yours sincerely

Dre Cha
