Candidate for the position of Welfare Officer

Aitana Berenguer Abad

Your well-being matters. Your voice matters.

Dear Members of the Queen Mary Law Society,

My name is Aitana Berenguer, and I am thrilled to stand as a candidate for the position as Welfare Officer.

A Welfare Officer in a law society should focus on the well-being and support of society members. I am aware of the academic struggles that can come from such a rigorous course: long hours, heavy reading, and constant deadlines. But it’s even tougher when we don’t feel supported, when stress builds up, or when challenges make it hard to keep going. No one in our society should feel alone in their struggles. Whether it’s academic pressure, mental health concerns, or just needing a friendly face to talk to - I want to be the person you can turn to.

What am I offering?

🤝Social & Community Engagement

  • Setting up events to get to know more people in our course to familiarize ourselves with our academic environment, especially for First Year students who may be feeling overwhelmed by the substantive change.
  • Ensuring the society is welcoming and accessible to all.
  • Creation of a Peer-supporting Network with upper years to provide university-life guidance, friendship, and academic tips!

🧠Prioritizing Mental Wellbeing & Emotional Support

  • Strengthening ties with university well-being services and ensuring that every law student knows how to access confidential mental health support.
  • Create a “Drop-in” scheme: A safe space for students to share concerns, access peer support, and talk openly about challenges.
  • Workshops focusing on stress management and anxiousness and how to face these issues.
  • Advocating for fair extensions, mental health breaks, and accessible well-being policies.

🗣️A Student-Led Approach to Welfare

  • Ensuring that Law Society members can approach anyone for advice
  • Creating a safe and welcoming environment in society events
  • Encouraging students to engage and speak their mind concerning any issues, building confidence.

Your well-being matters. Your voice matters. If you want a Welfare Officer who will listen, take action, and stand up for your needs, I’d be honored to have your support.

Thank you for taking your time and reading this, I truly appreciate your support! 😊
