Hello, I’m Gia Arora (she/her), a second-year Politics student running to be your HSS Faculty Representative.

I am not running to gain experience; I already have it. I am running to deliver impact at a faculty-wide level.

Why Am I Your Best Choice?

I was awarded the Student Enhanced Engagement and Development award by QMUL in recognition of the significant impact of my work as a Course Representative. My proposals were enacted within the Department Politics and International Relations, including improving how assignments are marked, described by staff as having “both immediate and future-facing impact”, demonstrating a “sustained thought and effort” toward my work.

What Have I Done for You So Far?

Here are the roles I have represented you in:

  • Course Representative – I have been a Course Representative for both the years I’ve spent at QMUL. In that time, I have:

    • Worked with the department of Sociology, Politics, and International Relations to make assessment criteria clearer and more measurable.
    • Contributed to improvements to department and school communication with students.
    • Created a feedback form so students can easily raise their concerns.
    • Petitioned to improve timetabling at the School of Society and Environment (SSE).
    • Worked with SSE to improve PASS sessions.
    • Contributed to shaping the identity and values of SSE.
  • Editor-in-Chief of The Print
    • I revived our students’ union newspaper to ensure student journalism and student voices remain visible on campus.
  • Founder and President of Rotaract
    • I established Rotaract as a professional, academic, and personal development initiative, providing volunteer programs, workshops, collaborations, and welfare initiatives.
  • Academic Events Officer for PoliTea
    • Built relationships between students and academic staff through our bi-annual roundtable events and monthly meetings.
  • Investing in Liberation
    • I have been actively involved in liberation through the QMSU, contributing to brainstorming and funding panels for events.

Across each role, there is a consistent system of OrganisingImplementing, and Outcome.

What Do I Want to Do for You?

Academic and Careers

  • Clearer and more consistent lecturer feedback on assignments.
  • Student-informed module descriptions during module selection.
  • Reliable and consistent QReview recordings.
  • Stronger partnership with TELT so digital resources are effective.
  • Better promoted and more diverse careers fairs.
  • More engagement for careers outside the UK.
  • Lobby for more bookable independent study spaces across existing infrastructure.

Communication

  • Lobby for weekly departmental newsletters to reduce email spam.
  • Improved responsiveness and clarity from AskQM.
  • Better signposting of support across Mile End and Lincoln’s Inn Fields.
  • Expanded and better-promoted access to Studiosity.

Representation

  • Better visibility of course representatives.
  • Streamlined feedback processes to make Student Voice Committees (SVCs) more representative and productive.
  • Highlight the achievements of students in HSS.

Welfare

  • Lobby to diversify the participation fund to include activity beyond student groups at the students’ union.

I have a proven track record of delivering for students, one I intend to maintain and diversify if I’m elected.

I’m ready to raise the bar across HSS, are you ready to help me get there?
