Who am I?

Hello, I'm Najah a current Pharmacology student who has a passion for improving the university experience for STEM students .I have worked as a PASS mentor, providing academic support to other Science and engineering faculty students so have a motivation for amplifying these voices to make change.I have also served as a volunteering champion, running volunteering opportunities for students, and I previously worked  at the SU as the Black History Month community organiser.I am passionate about representing minority groups and implementing feedback to improve the overall university experience.

Improving Your Course:

  • Advocate for more diverse academic guest speakers in STEM.

  • Push for curriculum reviews and improvements to make them more accessible and reflective of our diverse students.

  • Work to reduce attainment gaps through targeted academic mentoring and peer-support schemes.

  • Push for changes in group work ( clearer structures & guidance and fairer grades)

  • smooth transitions for all university courses for postgraduates to give more guidance

  • Push for more transparent & targeted feedback and initiatives to help all students with academic progress

Enhancing Your Career Opportunities:

  • Increase partnerships with STEM companies to expand internships, placements, and networking events.

  • Develop targeted career initiatives supporting women, BAME students, international students, students with disabilities & students from low socioeconomic backgrounds

  • Connect students with diverse alumni mentors working across STEM sectors and improve post-graduate roles awareness.

Improving Overall Student Well-being

  • Tackling academic pressure by advocating for better spacing of deadlines and clearer assessment guidance.

  • Promote open conversations around stress and mental well-being in STEM

  • Strengthen peer-support networks within departments.

  • Campaign for increased promotion of hardship funds and financial support.

  • Awareness campaigns and academic check-ins to improve well-being in the early stages.
