Saarim Ahmed (Revive)

"With the students. By the students. For the students." Students deserve a Union that truly listens and delivers. As a Student Trustee and Society President, I’ve seen how change happens. I’m running to bring transparency, accountability, and real representation so every student’s voice shapes the future of Queen Mary.

Vote Saarim Ahmed for QMSU President

With the students. By the students. For the students.

I currently serve as a Student Trustee and have held leadership roles within a student society. These experiences have allowed me to see how the Union works and, more importantly, how it can be used to help students.

I am running for President because the Students’ Union should always be with the students, by the students, and for the students.

Making Student Life More Affordable:

Many students are facing real financial pressure. As President, I will work with the University and the Students’ Union to make everyday student life more affordable. This includes bringing meal deals back to £3.50, improving food options in The Curve, and supporting the renovation of Ground Café so students have access to fresher and more affordable food. I will also work to create 20 to 30 new on-campus part-time jobs and advocate for stronger hardship funds and bursary support for students who need it most.

Supporting Student Societies

Societies are at the heart of campus life. They bring people together, create communities, and make university life more meaningful. As President, I will work to increase society funding and grants, make room booking faster and simpler, and reduce waiting times for external speaker approvals. I will also hold regular meetings with society presidents so their ideas and concerns are heard directly.

Improving Campus Facilities

Reopen the Libray and QM Social 24/7. Students deserve facilities that reflect their needs. I will work with the University to improve everyday spaces across campus. This includes advocating for reduced gym memberships, introducing bidet showers in campus facilities, and improving food spaces across campus.

Supporting Faith and Inclusion

Queen Mary is home to students from many cultures and faiths. Recent student feedback has highlighted the need for more Faith Centres and work closely with faith societies to ensure these spaces reflect the needs of the communities who use them.

Standing for Students Globally

Queen Mary is a global community. Many students are directly affected by conflicts around the world. I will advocate for stronger support for students affected by crises in Palestine, Ukraine, and other war-affected regions, including pushing for expanded scholarship opportunities.

A Campus Where Everyone Belongs

During my first days at Queen Mary, I experienced racism firsthand. It took time to process, and it reminded me how important it is that every student feels safe and respected here. As President, I will work to strengthen awareness and reporting of hate crime and discrimination, challenge racism and Islamophobia, and ensure that Freshers Week feels welcoming and inclusive for everyone.

A Union That Listens

With the students! By the students! For the students!
