BL Sign Language Society Elections 2023

This is the election for the new BL Sign Language Committee for the 2023-2024 academic year. The positions available are: President, Treasurer, Welfare Officer, Social Media Officer, Secretary, Education Officer and Events Officer. All members who are students at QMUL or Barts and the London in the academic year 2023-2024 are eligible to stand and vote.

The polls have closed.

BL Sign Language Society - President

- Figurehead of the student group - Host general meetings for committee - Support other committee members with their tasks and roles - Ensure all tasks are completed - Liaise with QMSU and external organisations (e.g: Deaf Unity)

BL Sign Language Society - Treasurer

- Manage society finances - Apply for external sponsors and contact companies and negotiate for sponsorship opportunities (e.g: Accenture) - Apply for QMSU sponsorship

BL Sign Language Society - Welfare Rep

- Point of contact between society members and committee - Ensure the welfare of society members - Manage welfare issues affects society members - Signpost students to relevant services for welfare concerns - Foster a culture of inclusivity in society

BL Sign Language Society - Social Media Officer

- Manage social media accounts - Create publicity materials for events (e.g: instagram posts, facebook) - Work with education officer to produce education content (e.g: sign word of the week, quizzes and fun facts post)

BL Sign Language Society - Secretary

- Ensure administrative tasks are completed (e.g: booking rooms, meeting minutes) - Reaching out to society members via newsletters or WhatsApp group chat - Manage QMSU mini-site

BL Sign Language Society - Education Officer

- Work with events officer on academic events (e.g: deaf awareness training, talks) - Aid the organisation and facilitation of BSL courses - Work with social media officer to produce education content (e.g: sign word of the week, quizzes and fun facts post)

BL Sign Language Society - events officer

- Aid the organisation of social events (e.g: games night, afternoon tea event) - Work with education officer on academic events (e.g: deaf awareness training, talks) - Liaising with external speakers - Ensuring the success of various events
