What is 'H.M.S. Pinafore'?
'H.M.S. Pinafore' (1878) is a two-act comic operetta by Gilbert and Sullivan, which centres around a lowly sailor, Ralph, who intends to marry his captain's daughter, Josephine, much to her father's dismay. Due to their difference in status, it does not appear as if the two can publicly enter a relationship, so the couple decide to elope.
