About this event

MNight is the crown jewel event of the Queen Mary Malaysian Society (QMMS) held annually for one night during springtime. It is widely participated by QMMS members and draws audiences from all around the United Kingdom (UK), be it from Malaysian societies of other UK universities, or even non-Malaysians in the UK. As a large-scale project, it is an event that fosters the spirit of collaboration and camaraderie amongst those who join in on the production team. For audiences, it provides a night of wonder and cultural exploration as Malaysian culture is portrayed on stage for the delight of those who seek to know more about Malaysia, or just simply there to have a good time.

This year, MNight will do something different than the usual long play formula, as the team attempts to put out 5 short plays flanked by an introductory and closing scene within one night. Each short play will highlight a particular element of what makes Malaysia Malaysian and each element corresponds to a particular formal element of theatre (backdrop, sound, lighting, music, props, make up, wardrobe, dance, acting). The 5 short plays will transition into each other seamlessly as a narrator facilitates the flow of the performance throughout the evening, bringing the audience along for the journey. Each short play is estimated to be about 15-20 minute long as total runtime is estimated to be about 2 hours 20 min.
