Film Screening: 'If toxic air is a monument to slavery, how do we take it down?'

This Black History Month, in addition to celebrating the theme Saluting our Sisters, we also want to highlight our union values around intersectionality, and our desire to thread concepts of sustainability and wider environmentalism throughout our offering. 

Join School of Geography PhD researcher and artist Imani Jacqueline Brown on 20 October from 4-6pm in the Matt Spencer Boardroom for a screening, talk, and discussion of the Forensic Architecture film If toxic air is a monument to slavery, how do we take it down? The film will run for about 35 minutes, after which Imani will discuss its production in her work within Forensic Architecture, before opening up for wider conversation. 

About Imani Jacqueline Brown: 

Imani Jacqueline Brown works across art, activism, writing, and research. She investigates the ‘continuum of extractivism’, which spans from settler-colonial genocide and slavery to fossil fuel production and climate change. She is currently a PhD candidate at Queen Mary, University of London, a research fellow with Forensic Architecture, and an associate lecturer in MA Architecture at the Royal College of Arts. 

About Forensic Architecture: 

Forensic Architecture (FA) is a research agency, based at Goldsmiths, University of London, investigating human rights violations including violence committed by states, police forces, militaries, and corporations. FA works in partnership with institutions across civil society, from grassroots activists, to legal teams, to international NGOs and media organisations, to carry out investigations with and on behalf of communities and individuals affected by conflict, police brutality, border regimes and environmental violence.
