Sylheti Society

About

Sylheti Society promotes the preservation and celebration of Sylheti language, script, and culture. Many people have the misconception that Sylheti is a dialect, but it is a distinct language with its own script (Sylheti Nagri). Our society aims to raise awareness to this language through language workshops, poetry nights, film screenings, and cultural events such as Dhamail dance, storytelling, and traditional arts.

By building a supportive community of students with Sylheti roots or interest in the culture, we aim to revive the script, celebrate heritage, and make Sylheti language and traditions more visible, accessible, and valued within the QMUL community.
