BL Badminton is a friendly club that welcomes people of all abilities. We provide opportunities for members who are interested in playing competitively, as well as those who just want to play for fun.
Feel free to come along and join us, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced player. We offer a whole year of court time for just £32.50 for social members and £50 for team members, which is extremely good value. All new members will receive a free taster session before paying subs.
Taster Sessions
We’ll have a few taster sessions at the beginning of the season, giving you a chance to see what the club is like. Also, this is a good chance for anybody who wants to play for the team to show us what they’ve got! Bring a racket if you have one but if you do not, the club has a few spares.
Our current taster sessions are:
- 1st October: 2 - 3 pm
- 1st October 3 - 4 pm
- 8th October 2 - 3 pm
- 8th October 3 - 4 pm
You can sign up using this link https://forms.gle/uu1Fc4RZh4FTs3ad6 and we hope to see you there!
Social Badminton
Saturday 2-4 pm in Qmotion Sports Hall
We provide shuttlecocks and have a few club rackets that we can lend you. However, it’s best if you have your own racket as they can be in high demand!
There is no obligation to play every week, but we’d love to see our social members as much as possible!
Competitions
BL Badminton competes for Barts and the London in the famous annual Merger Cup sporting event.
Currently, we have one Men’s team and one Mixed team competing nationally in BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) and LUSL (London Universities Sports League). For team members, we’d hope to see that you’re committed to the club and have an interest in training for matches.
Trials
Trials will be held for the Men’s and Mixed teams at Whitechapel Sports Centre (55 Durward St, London E1 5BA), on Wednesday the 5th of October. Sign up using the link: https://forms.gle/LfBCxK22PuxgFUp69
What do I need?
Racquet and sports kit
How do selections work?
The team captains and presidents will assess your skills and team working abilities. You will be contacted further if you are successful in joining the team.
What if I’m not selected?
Fret not! If you regularly attend the social badminton sessions and express interest in joining the team, there is a chance of joining the team later on. Not every member can attend every match so the team list will change throughout the year, so there’s always a chance!
When are the matches?
Mixed (LUSL) matches are played on the weekend.
Men’s (BUCS) matches are played on Wednesday afternoons.
Club Socials
At the start of the year we’ll be hosting our annual fresher’s curry, look out for us at the welcome fair or on our Instagram for more information. There's also the Christmas dinner which is always a smashing event!
We'll be hosting a lot more socials throughout the year, so keep an eye on our Insta to see when we're doing something!
How to get involved
Register your interest at the welcome fair at Whitechapel Campus on the 21st of September! If you can’t make it you can join our Whatsapp group from our linktree for updates. It’s also a good idea to join our Instagram so you can stay up to date with training sessions.
Attend our taster session – your first session is free!
